Blue Heart Initiative Program

Building Awareness, Safety & Trust
A community-based safety and awareness program created to strengthen the relationship between first responders and individuals with visible and non-visible disabilities - including those who are neurodivergent or living with mental health or medical conditions.
About the Program
A community built on understanding.
The Blue Heart Initiative works through training, tools, and
trust-building events so that when an emergency arises, first responders are prepared, families feel supported, and our community grows closer. We promote safety, dignity, and
trust - before a crisis ever occurs.
What We Do:
- Built on trust: Strengthening relationships between first responders and individuals with disabilities before a crisis occurs.
- The Blue Heart Sticker: A voluntary visual cue placed on your home or vehicle that signals someone in your household may have unique communication or sensory needs.
- Trained Responders: Our first responders learn to approach with calm, patience, and awareness when they see the Blue Heart Symbol.
- Community Events: Families and first responders connect in welcoming settings through hands-on learning and open conversation.
- Disability Info Book: Families can optionally share a confidential profile to help responders provide faster, more informed support.
Better Outcomes for Everyone
For families and individuals
Greater peace of mind during emergencies. Consistent, compassionate responses. Clearer communication when it matters most.
For first responders
Improved situational awareness. Reduced risk of escalation or misunderstanding. A stronger connection to the community they serve.
